Conservation and Management Work Group

Group Description

The Conservation and Management Working Group under the Lower Kafue Basin Multistakeholder Platform (MSP) is a collaborative initiative aimed at conserving and sustainably managing the basin’s natural resources. The group brings together stakeholders from government, local communities, civil society, private sector and research institutions to develop and implement integrated conservation and management plans, promote sustainable land and water use practices, enhance biodiversity conservation and address environmental degradation and climate change impacts. Through research, monitoring, capacity building and policy advocacy, the CMWG strives to protect critical habitats and ecosystems, and support climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts, ultimately contributing to sustainable development and conservation of the Lower Kafue Basin’s natural resources.

  1. Develop and implement integrated conservation and management plans for the Lower Kafue Basin.
  2. Enhance sustainable use and conservation of natural resources (water, land, biodiversity).
  3. Promote collaborative governance and stakeholder engagement.
  4. Address environmental degradation and climate change impacts.

  3. Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish monitoring systems to track conservation progress and outcomes.
  4. Capacity Building: Provide training and capacity building for stakeholders on conservation and management practices.
  5. Research and Knowledge Sharing: Conduct research and share knowledge on best practices in conservation and management.
  6. Policy Advocacy: Advocate for policy reforms and supportive legislation.
  7. Community-Based Conservation: Support community-based conservation initiatives and projects.
